Why Would This Not Work in Indiana?

A consultant hired to help Bloomington decide how to replace lost manufacturing jobs recommends storing data for companies.

Boyd Co. Inc. said in a recent report that Bloomington ranked third in a list of 45 cities in suitability for hosting data storage centers, according to The Herald-Times of Bloomington.

The centers, which generate well-paying jobs, are being built in the Midwest by companies looking to cut costs.

Land, electricity and living costs are lower in places like Bloomington than many locations in the country, Boyd pointed out. Google recently built a center on 600 acres in Council Bluffs, Iowa; the site includes buffer space for added security.

Indiana University offers intellectual advantages, too, Boyd said. The university's Information Technology program is just one.

In October, IU said it would build a data center to protect its technology infrastructure. The building will be designed to resist vandalism, tornados as strong as an F5, and other threats.

Other than Bloomington has IU and we do not?
