Some New Laws To Be Aware of

Thanks to our Senator Tim Lanane, we have these new laws this year:

SEA 208, another bill that I co-authored, allows counties to provide homeowners with the option of paying property taxes through an automatic deduction from a checking account or any other method of installment payment.

SEA 26 makes it a Class B infraction for a landlord's failure to properly install a smoke detector at the time a tenant moves into a unit or to repair an inoperative hard-wired smoke detector within seven days of receiving notice of the need for repair.

HEA 1193 establishes an interim study committee to conduct a thorough study and review of the state's adult education program and make recommendations to enable the state to offer a program that will better serve the needs of Hoosiers in today's economy.

HEA 1249 provides that an Indiana resident who enters active duty service in the U.S. armed forces of the Indiana National Guard after September 10, 2001, and who receives the Purple Heart decoration, will not have to pay for tuition and fees at state-supported universities.
