British Looking to Expand Rail, So Why Are We Not?

Scotland's The Sunday Herald has been covering high speed rail, why do we not get the same thing from our local and national newspapers? Take a look at Railway expansion will allow Scots to take the high-speed route to England from June 22. Then there is Bid to fast-track continental rail link from last month:

"A spokesman for Virgin Trains said: 'The important thing is that Britain continues to develop our rail network and does not make the serious mistake of the past of doing nothing for decades, leaving later generations to pay the price of serious neglect.

'There is no doubt there would be huge benefits to the national economy and to the environment of high-speed rail. In almost any other country in Europe no-one would be flying the distance between London and Glasgow - they would be on a train. While we believe the better service we are offering from next year can make significant inroads into the domestic air market, any major reduction in flight traffic will require a new high-speed route.'"

Think about this: high speed rail to Chicago, or to Detroit and then Toronto, or to Columbus, Ohio and points east? How will this improve Indana's economy?
