Frank Rich on Bush and Pakistan

From The Coup at Home:

"Even if Mr. Bush had the guts to condemn General Musharraf, there is no longer any moral high ground left for him to stand on. Quite the contrary. Rather than set a democratic example, our president has instead served as a model of unconstitutional behavior, eagerly emulated by his Pakistani acolyte."
Read the whole thing. Since this was published, George W. Bush condemned the Democratic Congress as spending like teenagers with a credit card, the cost for Iraq reaches $1.5 trillion dollars, and Attorney General Mukasey reopened the domestic spying investigation.

Whether we can stand more of the Bush Presidency is open to question. I may not be ecstatic in the way that Pelosi and Reid have lead their respective Houses but I neither am I particularly disappointed. Neither the Speaker of the House nor the Senate Majority Leader can crack a whip and receive absolute obedience. If they could, I would be scared. I have no problem with those who differ about the best means of getting out of Iraq. Reasonable minds can differ about that. What I am seeing is more of a deliberate, steady pressure on the President and on public opinion and that might be the best strategy with this most unsteady of Presidents. On the other hand, no more Armenian resolutions, please.
