I wish I could have seen the debate yesterday. Instead, I was in Fort Wayne meeting clients. So here are my thoughts since reading Mayoral debate turns confrontational in the Herald Bulletin:
During the forum I did attend, I thought both Ockomon and Smith were restraining themselves when Jozwiak started talking about the Anderson Police Department and illegal alients. Looks like I was right. Sounds like yesterday, they stoppe dgrtting their teeth.
Smith said that immigration was a federal issue.
“Until the federal government makes a proposition, the locality is at a disadvantage,” he said. “People want a piece of the American dream. I’m a mixture of how many different backgrounds. ... They didn’t want my people either.”
Ockomon said he was personally offended by Jozwiak’s claims because he is a police officer.
When officers try to contact the closest Immigration and Naturalization Services office, which is in Chicago, “we get turned flat on our face,” Ockomon said. The problem is difficult to monitor, and it is a federal issue, he said.
Ty Bibbs confuses me. I see the signs and they are one hell of an effort by a write-in candidate. Still, he misses these forums.
Combine the write-in candidates and Jozwiak, and I think both parties have a problem - they are becoming meaningless to the ordinary citizen.
