My last post on property taxes brought forth a comment asking if I knew anything about the increase in Madison County. I do not. In another I mentioned I had heard something that gave me the impression of a big increase. Being gone yesterday, I could not post a link to Masson's discussion on taxes but here is a link now.
A day's delay brought two stories from Muncie's Star-Press on how the new property tax assessments angered Muncie citizens and businesses.
My last post on property taxes meant to point out the problem is a statewide problem and not merely a Marion County problem. Will a Special Session do any good? Not so long as the politicians fear any tax increase will result in them losing a job and so long as we, the people, think government can run without taxes.
We need to decide what we want government to do as well as what it must do (the Indiana Constitution does require payment by the government for some things like education), so we have an idea of cost, and then figure out how to pay for it all.
