More intermodal

From yesterday's IBJ Daily and LaPorte County:

A backer of a 3,000-acre intermodal shipping hub planned for LaPorte County in northwest Indiana says he has the land under contract and as much as $2 billion in financing lined up to proceed. All that's needed, Chris Davey told the Post-Tribune of Merrillville, are commitments from railroad companies that they would use the facility.

Construction could start next year said Davey, president of Grubb-Ellis/Cressey & Everett Commercial in Mishawaka.

The land is near Union Mills in the southern part of the county. The project, which could employ 2,000, involves shifting timber, cars, agricultural products and other cargo back and forth between rail cars and trucks. Some storage also is planned.
I wrote here about an intermodal proposal in the Evansville area. I still wonder if Anderson/Madison County could support this kind of a facility.
