ACS and school uniforms

As anyone from Anderson has probably noticed, we can claim a distinction from every other Indiana city. We do not have tax protests like Indianapolis. We have near riots about school uniforms. Also, as my wife remarked last week, it does not help their cause when the parents show difficulties in spelling: http://www.theheraldbulletin.com/archivesearch/images_sizedimage_191222353/resources_photoview. I can sympathize as I am terrible proofreader also. (Still, I correct my mistakes and try not to wave them about in public).

Now we can look forward to the possibility of the anti-uniform crowd involving the solemnity of the law in order to stop the school board's plan for uniforms. So reports the Anderson Herald-Bulletin this morning.

Why the plaintiffs' waited so long - and so close to the school year's start - to make this decision almost boggles my mind. What comes even closer to boggling my mind are the requirements for an injunction not mentioned in the Herald-Bulletin article: irreparable harm and injury to a legal interest. The only injury I can imagine would occur when a child is expelled for violating the school's uniform policy but I must admit I am not so well versed in school law. I suspect there is precedent allowing such an expulsion.

Would that more parents get so involved when it comes to the actual education of their children instead of only about the clothes they are to wear or not wear.

For the record, I think the best argument against the policy is the lack of proof showing a connection between the policy and grades. The best argument I can see for the policy is the possibility of less hassle getting my kids dressed for school.

By the way, Meijers had polo shirts on sale. We got a two weeks supply for the step-son this past weekend.
