Catching Up: Explaining Ann Arbor

I wanted to bring the following response about Ann Arbor out of the comment section. I am still baffled by the links to the original site's comments commands even if think the site is a great one. Think about some of this response and try applying this to any of the following:

1. The Gas Belt industrial cities.
2. Any other Indiana cities.
3. To any proposal for economic development made by anyone living in 1 or 2.
4. Any economic development proposal made by our Governor.

Ann Arbor is considered to be a mecca for information technology startups and knowledge workers due to its dense "wired" infrastructure (U of M was one of the first participants in MTS, an early 'backbone' of the pre-commercial Internet). Other factors include the cosmopolitan quality of life in a town hosting a world-class research university and the proximity of the research and technology intensive automotive industry in nearby Detroit (these were cited by Google in its recent decision to locate a major corporate presence in the downtown area here).

Taking some of those factors and Anderson might just as well take its bat and ball and go home. That is, if we do not even want to try. See, I think that technology intensive automotive industry left a few things here that might be of use - if we do not let them get away.
