In God We Trust but do we need to foot the bill?

I have been seeing all these In God We Trust license plates. Have you? At first, I thought we were getting invaded by Michigan. All that blue on the license plate, see? Scary thought that - people from Michigan don't drive like us. They drive so very slow. They I realized they were Indiana plates. So what is going on?

Taking Down Words had the first post I saw. Ms. Wagner seemed as surprised by the plate's popularity as I did. Then Advance Indiana posts about how this plate is costing us money. stAllio's Way picks up on a similar post from Welcome to Shakesville which mentions even other posts from which I got this post on A Blog from Hell. So we got Central Indiana Democrats/liberals picking on the plate and a northwest Indiana liberal/Democrat picking on the plate and a central Indiana liberal Republican picking on the plate, but nothing from the Indianapolis Star?

I give it credit for looking better than the standard plate but this is fiscal responsibility? The comments made to these blogs include those saying any criticism is anti-religion. Nope, it is not that you babbling baboons. Some people do not like government mixing into their faith. Others do not like subsidizing other people's faith.

However, I found this one line from Welcome to Shakesville pretty much damning of the whole operation:
By the way, Support Our Troops license plates are $20.
