And criminal cases were never dismissed, McKinney added, in lieu of defendants voluntarily giving up seized property and money in drug arrests.
'That never happened,' said McKinney, who handled forfeiture cases as a deputy prosecutor under former Prosecutor Rick Reed.
McKinney acknowledged Wednesday that he had been notified of the disciplinary complaint filed by Mayor Sharon McShurley alleging he diverted seized assets from suspected drug dealers to the local drug task force when some of that money should have remained in the city's general fund."
These articles cover the story begun in my post, Muncie Politics. On one side are the longstanding questions raised by the Muncie Drug Task Force and on the other side is the fallout of an ugly mayoral race. Do not expect things to get any better. Expect a lot of fighting of the up-close-and-personal variety between Muncie Republicans and Democrats. Finally, the Delaware County Democrats may have found something to unite them but they do need to get the fight away from DTF to McKinney. DTF does have a bad smell.
