Property taxes come to Madison County

News on Madison County's property taxes from the Herald Bulletin. First, reporting: Billing delay taxes local units

Taxing districts in Madison County received a rate this week.

But with collections due in December and disbursement not expected until January, the situation for local units is more taxing than ever.
And an editorial: Property tax delay continues to vex Madison County area. Which does have this interesting tidbit:
So, the offshoot of this is that most property owners in Madison County won’t pay their 2006 tax bills until 2007 is almost over. Rates haven’t gone up drastically in Madison County. In fact, tax rates in only 13 districts increased over 2005 taxes payable 2006; rates in 26 districts declined.

From earlier in the week was this news Madison County receives tax rate:
"After months of delay, the Department of Local Government Finance, or DLGF, returned a tax rate to Madison County Auditor Kathy Stoops-Wright on Tuesday. The rate, along with other information, is published in the classified section of The Herald Bulletin Friday."
Which seems to leave Madison County in a better spot than either Marion or Delaware Counties. I am left wondering what it means that in 26 taxing districts the rates have gone down.
