That left incumbent Republican Greg Sheline and challenger Democrat Bob Cameron to debate the issues facing the city and the 2nd District head-to-head. Sheline and Cameron took differing stances on the proposed economic development umbrella group for Kokomo and Howard County and the recently implemented local option income taxes to reduce property taxes in 2008. Cameron said he was uneasy about putting all the efforts under one group.
“This is a status group,” he said. “I don’t see efforts being put forth.” Cameron said there has been no increase in employment in Kokomo in recent years and employment at Delphi, where he is employed, has decreased. Sheline said the current city government has too many boards.
Kokomo remains the only one of the automotive cities retaining any factory work - and its attendant high wages. Not good if Kokomo falters also.
