Philosophically, I have no greater disagreement with our current President and his followers than with the idea of the unitary executive. My disagreement with the President over Iraq is both philosophical and political. I suppose that Dick Cheney, John Yoo and the President think of this as the President Unbound. Well, that is just not what the way it is supposed to be. The Constitution restrains the Presidency as well as the other branches. Where Bush has pushed this idea the most is with his signing statements. Bush has the prerogative of the veto but none when it comes to enforcing the laws he does sign into existence.
