I decided to start a blog several weeks ago, maybe even months ago. Work and the need to pay the bills got in the way. The New York Times had written about Anderson, Indiana. A firestorm of sorts exploded in our local paper. The Times came to Anderson for a story about General Motors retirees and their effect on a local economy. The local paper reported on the story. The local paper allows online comments. These you can see here and here and here.
What still surprises me is that so many people thought that the New York Times ought to have done a story on how well Anderson is doing now that GM is not our principal employer. I saw nothing wrong (as in being factually incorrect) in the story that they wrote - we do have a large number of GM retirees and they do have an economic impact in this city.
What surprised me, also, was that no one took the Herald-Bulletin to task for their failure in reporting about the city. Where are the stories telling us about Anderson's economic development? Where are the stories about what is going good and going bad here? Where in the Anderson Herald-Bulletin is Anderson? I was frustrated by the lack of all these things. I am unsure whether this blog will solve that frustration or not but it seems better than doing nothing.
So there is the genesis for this blog. So where do I intend to go from here?
- It is going to be about Anderson and the area around us.
- It is going to be about the politics and policies of Anderson.
- It is going to be from a Democrat viewpoint because those are the politics I find myself aligned with.
